Te Puke bowler gets player honours

A Te Puke bowler has received the Bay of Plenty Cricket Player of the Month honours for November and December.

Te Puke premier bowler Sean Gibson made a spectacular entrance into the first day of the Baywide T20 competition in November earning him the honours along with a Rotorua youngster who blasted a century in an intercity representative fixture.

Seven years ago Bay of Plenty Cricket introduced the BOP Cricket Player of the Month Award. The purpose of the award is to recognise excellence in Bay of Plenty Cricket during each month of the playing season.

After taking three wickets in the early afternoon game, Gibson went ballistic against BOP Indians, taking six wickets for just four runs in the November game.

Te Puke batted first and posted a solid 176/6 in their twenty overs. Gibson picked up the ball on the first bowling change and simply ripped apart the Rotorua sides middle and lower order, as the opposition were removed for 62.

In just 3.5 overs, the Te Puke quick grabbed the last six BOP Indian batsman, with the last three falling without troubling the scorer.

Following in the footsteps of Kane Williamson, a young Rotorua junior cricket player blasted an unbeaten 172 runs, in the annual HRV Trophy junior cricket representative fixtures played at Ferguson Park in Tauranga on Sunday, December 2 2012.

Hayze Perham simply blasted the Western Bay Year 8 representatives out of the game with 172 runs in his sides 335/7. The hugely talented youngster smashed an incredible 16 sixes and 11 fours in his whirlwind innings.

The huge score follows hard on the heels of the youngster's feats at the ND Primary three-day series in Hamilton two weeks prior to his big century.

On the first day of the three day tournament, Hayze top scored in his sides defeat of Waikato Valley South with 57 runs, then backed up on day two to blast 101 as BOP Lakeland beat Counties Manukau by 14 runs.
