Bay awaiting confirmation

Bay of Plenty Cricket are awaiting confirmation that the Bay of Plenty senior representatives have annexed the Brian Dunning Trophy for the current season after taking a bonus point from the big win over Poverty Bay at the Bay Oval yesterday.

The Brian Dunning Trophy is the prize at stake in the ND One Day competition that is played within the framework of the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl each season.

While Bay of Plenty were trailing Northland by a solitary point entering the last round of competition - the bonus point that the Bay took from their victory against Poverty Bay tied the two sides, with Bay of Plenty's victory over Northland giving the Bay the Brian Dunning prize for the 2012/13 season.

In other representative cricket, the Bay of Plenty Women's team returned home from Gisborne with a reasonably close run defeat in their scorebook.

Poverty Bay batted first and mustered 184/4 in their allotted overs, with a feature of the innings being the three run outs by the Bay of Plenty fielders.

In reply Bay of Plenty reached 162/8, which handed the home side the win points on offer. Anna Henson top scored with 35, while Emily Lord (31) and Tia Robinson (25) made useful contributions in the Bays total.
