Mount wins WBOPCA reserve grade

Mount Maunganui second eleven annexed the WBOPCA Reserve Grade T20 title on Saturday when they defeated Greerton in the final.

Greerton batted first and were dismissed for 104 with Nathan Byrnes grabbing three wickets for Mount Maunganui.


Facing just over five runs an over Mount Maunganui were made to fight for the T 20 championship title losing five wickets on the way.

Mount Maunganui thirds wrapped up third place defeating Katikati with Cadets getting past Te Puke to grab fifth place in the title race.

Two weeks ago the Greerton B Grade team hadn't recorded a century in well over a decade – fast-forward to Saturday, when Paul Inglis smashed the teams second successive ton, following on from Ben Lund's century the previous weekend.

Batting first against Grasshoppers the Greerton side blasted 266/6 with Inglis smashing 133. In a high scoring game Hoppers were restricted to 245/6 to give Greerton a hard fought victory.

The highest total of the weekend came from Katikati, who blazed away to reach 329 all out in their last over against Albion.

Gene Darvill smashed the weekend's top score of 136 before his side bowled Albion out for 100.

Wanderers moved up the standings courtesy of Chris Uden who took 5/29 to remove Malwa for just 104.

Wanderers cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand.
