Cricket fan’s dream realised

A young cricket fan had the opportunity most boys dream of when he got to meet Blackcaps captain Brendon McCullum last night.

Hamilton youngster Thomas Groufsky, 10, also had the chance to take part in the official coin toss to kick-off the second ANZ Twenty20 match at Seddon Park.

Thomas, who is playing his third season for Hamilton Old Boys' Cricket Club, joined the Blackcaps and England captains on the pitch after winning an ANZ competition.

'I was pretty nervous before walking out on the pitch in front of everyone but it ended up being really fun,” says Thomas.

'The best part was being able to talk to Brendon McCullum as he's my favourite player, apart from the Blackcaps win of course.”

ANZ head of sponsorship Susan McGregor says Thomas is only one of nine children chosen to participate in the coin toss at each of the ANZ International Series cricket matches this summer.

'It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for a young cricket fan to stand side by side with the two captains and be there for the moment that gets the whole match going.”
