Katikati makes a move

Katikati made a significant move in the WBOPCA Reserve Grade title race when they defeated Te Puke at the weekend.

The Katikati batting attack took to the Te Puke bowlers with real enthusiasm to blast an imposing 347/8.


Love Sharma led the way with a sparkling 80 runs, with JS Dhillion and Matt Harrison both getting into the seventies. Led by a five-wicket bag by Katikati stalwart Simon Turnbull, the Te Puke chase ended when they were bowled out for just 143, to give Katikati a solid win.

Mount Maunganui seconds won the Mount Club Derby with their third eleven, on the artificial surface at Blake Park.

The Mount thirds posted just 153, but the Mount second eleven were made to work for the win losing six wickets. Long time Mount Maunganui all rounder Nick Smith was in good form with a solid 62 runs in his side's hard fought victory.

Greerton were another side to struggle somewhat chasing a modest target.

Tauranga Boys' College were dismissed for 140 with the Pemberton Park based side having just four wickets to spare. Cadets posted 139 all out then bowled R&A Sangha out for 86 to claim the victory.

Former premier bowler Ben Goodall showcased his batting talent, when he top scored with an unbeaten 102, as Grasshoppers beat Mount Maunganui in a B Grade competition encounter. In other B Grade match-ups Katikati defeated Malwa, Greerton were too good for Albion, with Cadets losing to Wanderers.
