Gillette Cup hits the Bay

The Gillette Cup hits the Eastern Bay of Plenty this Thursday when the combined Bay of Plenty/Poverty Bay regional T20 finals are played out at Rex Morpeth Park.

The Gillette Cup, which was first played in 1990, is the symbol of secondary school cricket superiority in the country.

Since the tournament inception over fifty players have gone on to play first class cricket with a number progressing to the Black Caps.

Tauranga Boys' College Black Cap Kane Williamson holds the record for the most centuries in Gillette Cup history with three three-figure scores.

Vaughn Wilson's top score for Otumoetai was a solid 67, with Lakeland age group representative bowler Tom Casey taking four wickets at a cost of just 21 runs.

While the Poverty Bay representatives who will play Bethlehem College are an unknown quantity – Bethlehem College are at the head of the WBOPCA first eleven standings.

The Western Bay Secondary School has two key players who sit at the top of the individual batting and bowling standings.

Bethlehem bowler Dylan Ramohitaj has taken 12 wickets with best bowling figures of 5/19, while Bill Burnett sits astride the batting totals with 162 runs.
