Grimm rapper comes clean

Rapper Diaz Grimm has admitted the tent at the Rhythm and Vines festival where he earlier tweeted to handing out cannabis joints during a performance was 'so hot boxed”.

The Cambridge rapper, who will perform in Tauranga tonight, made headlines in January after a YouTube video showed him handing out what was believed to be joints at the New Year's Eve festival.

Cambridge based rapper Diaz Grimm is playing at REHAB (City Sports Bar) tonight.

Speaking live on Moana radio today, Diaz, whose real name is Cameron Clarke, told presenter Pat Spellman the 'tent was so hot boxed” at the festival.

Diaz says he is excited to play at Tauranga's REHAB (City Sports Bar) as part of New Zealand Music Month tonight. This is his first rap gig of the year after a number of electronic sets including opening for Bauer, the artist famous for the Harlem Shake.

When asked to describe his music he admits it is a bit difficult as it is a mixture of genres compared to straight hip hop.

'I call it hippy hop. I don't base it around any genres styles.

'I would base it around hip hop as I'm a big hip hop fan, but I just try and make every song a song for everyone to feel good about.”

Starting song writing early on, he has only just begun to take song writing seriously alongside his DJ sets and founding of the Waikato famous ‘Pinch &A Punch' event.

'Everyone writes raps at home but never does anything with it. I started dj-ing six years ago and promoting four years ago and then started mc-ing at gigs.”

The monthly Pinch &A Punch event held at Stables Bar in Cambridge features growing artists including Homebrew, David Dallas and PNC.

Diaz will play at REHAB tonight with support from DJ Ru.
