Power authorities are today unable to point to the cause of the power cut that left almost 1000 Tauranga properties without power yesterday.

Power was shut down in the central business district for about 15 minutes at 4pm on Thursday.

Power was cut to about 1000 properties in the Tauranga CBD on Thursday.

The blackout left about 1000 properties without power with some inner city businesses unable to use electronic payments for a short time.

Today a Powerco spokesperson says it may take some day to track down the cause of the cut.

Power was restored from the company's control room in New Plymouth.
