Boys' College rewarded

Despite a mixed Super 8 season so far Tauranga Boys' College First XV has 10 players selected for the Chiefs region New Zealand Secondary Schools Development Camp.

The side who pushed reigning Super 8 champions Hamilton Boys High School close 24-19 earlier this month has been rewarded with the raft of players including lock Ben Webby, first five Dan Hollinshead and fullback Connor Fifita.

Tauranga Boys' College has 10 players in this week's Chiefs region New Zealand Secondary Schools Development Camp.

Along with Tauranga Boy's, Rotorua Boys' College has five selected in the camp. Tauranga Boys' currently has two wins and three losses in this year's Super 8 competition with two rounds remaining.

The 50 players from a range of secondary schools across the Chiefs regions assembled yesterday at St Peters School in Cambridge for a school holiday five day camp.

The in-depth camp provides the players with information on what it takes to become a professional player with the Chiefs.

A large selection of resources coaches including Chiefs, provincial union and club coaches will provide the content for the detailed programme providing the players insight and guidance into professional rugby requirements for their development.

Each player will receive position specific coaching in addition to attending a range of seminars relating to personal leadership, mental skills, strength and condition and injury management.

Chiefs high performance manager Chris Tindall says these camps the building blocks for future professional rugby players leading into the Chiefs franchise.

'These development camps are valuable learning for the boys and important for talent identification and providing development pathways for young players in Chiefs country with our provincial unions.”

On Wednesday the players will visit the Chiefs headquarters at Ruakura before playing an internal match later in the afternoon.
