Stan Meads Cup decider

Te Awamutu have the opportunity to ensure that their name is the only one engraved on the Stan Meads Cup, since the Mid North Island representative competition commenced three seasons ago.

On Sunday they will meet Eastern Bay of Plenty in the 2013 Stan Meads Cup Final at Albert Park in Te Awamutu.

The Te Awamutu Sub-Union representatives have reigned supreme since the SMC inception, winning the inaugural final in 2011 and backing up last season to post back to back SMC titles.

They have also taken the Peace Cup (SMC Challenge Trophy) into the off season for the third consecutive year.

Last Saturday they booked their berth in their third successive SMC title decider defeating Piako in a replay of last season SMC Final.

Te Awamutu had another war of attrition with the Waikato Sub-Union side before prevailing with a 26-18 victory.

The game at the Island Reserve in Otorohanga was up for grabs throughout most of the contest, before the home side got home with an eight point advantage.

Eastern Bay of Plenty will arrive in Te Awamutu determined to take the Cup back to the home.

They have been as equally impressive at the SMC holders posting three wins and a draw (against Piako) in their 2013 SMC campaign.

Eastern Bay of Plenty asserted early dominance in their semi-final clash against Hamilton in Opotiki last weekend.

The Eastern Bay side led 25-6 at the half way stage of the encounter.

However, Hamilton fought back in the second spell, restricting the home side to just a penalty goal with Eastern Bay posting a 28-6 victory.

The Stan Meads Bowl will provide the entree to the main event and will be contested by King Country B and Central Bay of Plenty.
