Greerton and TBC to meet at Pemberton Pa

There is likely to be plenty of talk and banter in the Baywide Cup match-up at Pemberton Park on Saturday when Eves Realty Greerton square off against Tauranga Boys' College.

In recent seasons, a number of Tauranga Boys players have made successful transitions from the Tauranga Boys first eleven to the Tauranga suburban club.

Greerton and Tauranga Boys' College will face off this weekend.

Greerton master blaster Brett Hampton led the migration a few years ago with the latest addition another hard hitting batsman in Tom MacRury.

While Tauranga Boys' College has had plenty of success in the last decade winning the Williams Cup in 2009 and back to back Baywide T20 titles, their greatest legacy has been their cricket pathway. Former TBC players such as Daniel Flynn and Kane Williamson have gone on to Black Cap honours, with the ND and Bay of Plenty representative ranks having plenty of former Tauranga Boys students.

Last weekend the two sides posted contrasting records, with Tauranga Boys waltzing away from East Bay United, while Greerton lost a thriller to City Sports Bar Te Puke.

A blazing 146 not out from Tauranga Boys mentor Mark Orchard simply took the game away from the Eastern Bay visitors.

Greerton set Te Puke a good sized target when they were dismissed for 219.

The home side was cruising at 182/4, before former TBC players Brett Hampton and Campbell Thomas stepped up to the plate to take two wickets apiece, as Te Puke scrambled home with two wickets in hand.

Element IMF Cadets newcomer Amit Dhiman, took three wickets in his debut for the Tauranga Domain based team, impressing his team mates.

He will have further opportunities to continue his wicket haul for his new club when Cadets host East Bay United at Ferguson Park.

The Eastern Bay side has plenty of firepower when they can get all their first picks on the field on the same day.

Last week Northern Knights bowler Graeme Aldridge showed his talent with the bat top scoring with a gritty 46 runs, while Matt Purdy and Joel Mathews impressed in their sides bowling lineup.

Baywide Cup defending champions Mount Maunganui are at home at Blake Park for the first time this season, albeit on the artificial surface on Blake four.

The Mount opponents are Rotorua Central, who have been reenergized with several newcomers this season, with the encounter likely to produce the usual Western Bay verses Rotorua fireworks.

Te Puke, who were arguably the most improved side in Baywide cricket last season, will have the opportunity to post back to back victories, when BOP Indians pay a visit to the Te Puke Domain.

BOPCA Baywide Premier Draw October 12

City Sports Bar Te Puke v BOP Indians, Te Puke Domain; Mount Maunganui v Central, Blake Park; Element IMF Cadets v East Bay United, Ferguson Park; Eves Realty Greerton v Tauranga Boys College, Pemberton Park.
