Teams look to extend stirling start

Katikati and Sangha (Raavi) CC who sit at the top of the standings, will be seeking to extend their respective sterling starts to the Western Bay of Plenty Reserve Grade competition on Saturday afternoon.

Last season's Baywide McNaughton Trophy holders are at home at the Uretara Domain against Te Puke.

While wet weather curtailed Katikati's assignment against Cadets last weekend, they made an impressive start to the season on opening day.

Led by a half century by former Thames Valley representative Matt Earl, they beat Mount Maunganui to grab revenge for defeat in last year's Western Bay tile decider.

Te Puke made an equally impressive start to the season in round one with a hard fought victory over Otumoetai Cadets.

However, last weekend they were bowled out for 58 by Mount Maunganui in the only Reserve Grade fixture that was completed.

Te Puke are sure to arrive in Katikati with a positive mind set from their first up win and they game could become a battle of attrition

Mount Maunganui showed their firepower at the top of their order when they chased down Te Pukes modest total last Saturday without losing a wicket.

Jamie Davies top scored with an unbeaten 37.

On Saturday they meet arch rivals Cadets at Blake Park. Cadets lost their first round encounter and will want to put maximum points on the board at Mount Maunganui headquarters.

Joint leaders Sangha (Raavi) CC, could be given a good test by the Tauranga Boys second eleven when the two sides meet at Nicholson Field.

However, the Sangha team showed in their round one match that they have plenty of firepower in both their batting and bowling ranks.

In last weekend's rained out game with the other Sangha team, they posted 239 runs before rain had the last say in the encounter.

Greerton play at home at Pemberton Park for the first time this season when Sangha (Anna) CC pay a visit.

The Sangha team had a good battle with the other Sangha side last weekend before rain prevented a result being declared.
