ND one-day tournament selections

Bay of Plenty Cricket selectors Cameron Burns and Crispian Stewart have been out and about at the early season Baywide and Attrill Cup games preparing to select the Bay Senior Men's team to play at the ND One-Day tournament next month.

The Northern Districts One-Day tournament is played in Taupo each year and kick starts the Northern Districts Cricket Fergus Hickey Rosebowl.

The Fergus Hickey competition which also encompasses the Brian Dunning one-day series is contested by all six ND minor associations.

The Bay selectors, in association with Senior Men's Coach Ben Williams and Bay Development Coach Charles Williams, have the responsibility of picking the Bay teams to defend the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl, Brian Dunning trophy and Hawke Cup.

The 2012/13 season was arguably the best in eighty-one years of Bay of Plenty Cricket with the Bay of Plenty first eleven winning all three pieces of silverware that the team is eligible to compete for.

There will be no easy introduction to the defence of the Fergus Hickey Rosebowl and the Brian Dunning one-day trophy at the Taupo tournament.

Bay of Plenty has drawn all three other heavyweight contenders in the one-day event.

Day one sees them square off with Counties Manukau before meeting Northland on day two.

Day three in Hamilton is likely to be a grudge encounter for the Waikato team after Bay of Plenty took the Hawke Cup from Hamilton's grasp in January 2013.

The major challenge for the Bay of Plenty team this season is to defend the NZ Cricket Hawke Cup, which is the symbol of minor association cricket superiority in the country.

The first Hawke Cup challenge will be played at Smallbone Park, Rotorua in late January 2014.
