Bay cricket team seek revenge

Revenge will be on the minds of the Bay of Plenty's development cricket team when they face their Hamilton counterparts at the Tauranga Domain tomorrow (November 17).

In the last game of the Basil McBurney competition in the 2012/13 season, the Bay team were beaten by just three runs in an absolute thriller.

After bowling Hamilton out for 269, the Bay side fell out the last hurdle, reaching 266/8 in their 50 overs. Tauranga Boys College batsman Ben Musgrave made an impressive debut for the Bay development team, blasting an unbeaten 115.

The Bay of Plenty representatives will also want to make up for a close defeat by Waikato Valley in the opening round of the 2013/2014 North Districts Development competition two weeks ago.

Unavailability and injury have opened the door for three players to make their debut for the Bay of Plenty second 11.

Cadet all-rounder Myles Timoti has earned selection as a top order batsman and should strengthen the Bay's batting firepower

Kyle Blanchard, who transferred to Rotorua to play for Central this season, has been rewarded for his good form in the Baywide Cup – and should bat in the team's middle order this weekend.

In a rare occurrence, Brodie Gilroy has been selected from the ranks of the Western Bay Reserve Grade competition. The very promising young bowler is one of the stars of the Coastland Senior Secondary team that won last season's ND Senior Secondary championship and has potential in spades.

The Bay of Plenty development cricket team versus Hamilton match is Sunday, November 17 at Tauranga Domain.

The team is: Jason Trembath (captain), Andrew Gibbs, Kyle Blanchard (Central) James Boyd, Ben Musgrave (Tauranga Boys College) Brodie Gilroy (Katikati) Myles Timoti (Cadets) Kent Hodder, Cam Neal, Campbell Thomas (Greerton) Hayden Byrnes, Chris Atkinson (Mount Maunganui)
