Consolidation time in reserve grade

With just a few points separating the three leading contenders at the top of the WBOPCA Reserve Grade championship standings this weekend is likely to throw up some important matchups.

Just two rounds remain before the holiday season break, leaving Sangha Raavi, Mount Maunganui and Katikati desperate to finish the first half of the season in good shape.

Competition leader Sangha Raavi square off with the Sangha second eleven at Ferguson Park. The competition leaders boast some big hitting batsmen in their side, but Sangha Anna will be buoyed with their recent form, posting more than 200 runs in beating Tauranga Boys' College.

Mount Maunganui are expected to bounce back after their second loss of the season to Katikati, when they play cellar dwellers Te Puke at Blake Park.

The formbook also suggests Katikati should comfortably beat Cadets, with Greerton seeking to cement fourth place against Tauranga Boys' College.

Former B Grade champions Wanderers, sitting alone at the top of the standings, are set for a good shootout with Cadets, with the encounter likely to be a hard fought battle.

The match-up between defending B Grade titleholders Grasshoppers and Katikati, in second place, could produce a run fest, while Mount Masters meet Albion at Ferguson Park.
