Mount eye ND title tilt

Mount Maunganui are aiming for a chance to bring back the Northern Districts Club Championships silverware squaring off against Hamilton's Marist Suburbs in Sunday's semi final at Blake Park.

Mount Maunganui earned the right to represent Bay of Plenty in the ND Club Champs, after winning the Baywide Cup before Christmas.

A farcical one over bowl off in last season's title decider, ended Mount Maunganui's hopes of bringing the ND Club Champs trophy back to the Bay, for the sixth successive year.

In the preceding five seasons, the Mount and Cadets dominated the ND prize, alternating victory in the Eric Petrie Cup.

Mount Maunganui will field a strong line-up in the ND Clubs Champs with a number of the team taking some of the individual honours in the Baywide Cup.

Mount bowlers Tony Goodin and Dale Swan produced a real battle for the top spot in the Baywide Cup bowling stakes, with Goodin taking out the top honours with 24 wickets, from his team spin wizard, grabbing 22 wickets.

The Mount team has three batsmen with genuine fire power, with the trio blasting centuries in the Baywide Cup.

Long time Mount member Nick Smith smashed an unbeaten 114, his maiden premier century in his 15 years in the premier side.

Skipper Peter Drysdale posted 362 runs including a top score of 107, with wicket keeper Tim Clarke another to reach three figures belting 111 against Te Puke in October 2013.
