Mount sevens this Sunday

The Mount Maunganui Sports Club Rugby Sevens, which is a long-time feature of the Auckland Anniversary holiday weekend, will be staged again this Sunday at Blake Park.

For the first time well known Western Bay engineering firm Page Macrae Engineering have come on board with the Mount Sports Club to sponsor the annual tournament, which will be known as the Page Macrae Engineering/Mount Sports Club Sevens.

Western Bay's Rangataua are entitled to wear the favourites tag after winning the last three editions of the Mount Sevens.

If Rangataua emerge victorious on Sunday, they will become the only four time winner of this popular sporting tournament.

Last year Rangataua squared off against fellow Western Bay club Te Puna in the title decider.

The defending champions won what was described as a highly entertaining and fast paced final.

The final score line of 38-15 reflected a game in which Rangataua showed their passion for the game and desire to win three successive Mount Sevens titles.

Hosts Mount Maunganui and Havelock North will join two teams from East Coast Bays to battle out the women's division.

Competition kicks off at 10am with the finals starting at 4pm.

The Championship Final will be played at 5pm on the Sir Gordon Tietjens (main) Field at Blake Park.

Entry fee is $5 for adults with children under 14 free.
