Semi-finals take centre stage

The New Zealand Sports Tours (Reserve Grade) Knockout Cup will provide plenty of action for Western Bay cricket watchers on Saturday, as four teams chase a place in the title decider which has cash prizes on the line.

Last week, Te Puke upset the applecart when they knocked the Western Bay championship leaders Sangha Raavi, out of the top echelon.

Te Puke batted first and were removed for what seemed a relatively modest 152, in the 50 over a side game, with Sangha bowler Aditya Saha grabbing six wicket wickets for just 20 runs.

However, the Te Puke bowlers roared into action in the Sangha first eleven turn at bat, to dismiss the opposition for 131 and claim a major upset.

Mount Maunganui, who holds the Western Bay championship title, will square off with Te Puke on the artificial surface at Gordon Spratt Reserve.

The Mount reached the semi-finals when they beat Cadets in a match where over 550 runs were scored.

Bawide Reserve Grade champions Katikati cruised to a 10 wicket win over Tauranga Boys' College seconds last week and will meet Greerton on the other side of the draw.

The Plate competition sees Cadets playing Sangha Raavi with Tauranga Boys' meeting Sangha Anna.

The competition is hotting up in the B Grade Championship title race.

New competition leaders Katikati play Cadets on the grass at Ferguson Park, while Wanderers and Grasshoppers, who share second place on the standings, square off on Ferguson two.

Albion have a good chance to advance from the bottom of the table, meeting Greerton at Pemberton Park.
