New T20 champion to be crowned

A new Lonestar Premier T20 champion will be crowned after the final days play in the 2013/14 Baywide T20 title race this Saturday.

Current defending titleholders Tauranga Boys College don't hold enough points to qualify for the championship decider, with the title likely to be fought out by Mount Maunganui, Eves Realty Greerton or Rotorua's Central club.

While there is an early afternoon qualifying round to play before the two top teams fight out the Lonestar T20 championship – Mount Maunganui who sit at the top points standings have accumulated enough points to book a berth in the 2013/14 title decider.

Mount Maunganui play archrivals Element IMF Cadets, with the Tauranga Domain based side already consigned to the lower order playoffs.

But the Mount players are likely to be keeping an eye on the two other encounters on nearby wickets at Ferguson Park, which will decide their championship opponents.

Greerton play long-time rivals City Sports Bar Te Puke, with Central squaring off against fellow Rotorua side BOP Indians.

The scenario is, if Greerton beat Te Puke they will take the second place in the T20 final stanza, but a Greerton loss and Central emerging triumphant over BOP Indians, will result in the two teams finishing on equal points – with Central progressing through to the T20 Final courtesy of beating Greerton in the round robin play.

Lonestar Premier Baywide T20 – Finals Day:

Points Table: Mount Maunganui 16, Greerton 13, Central 11, Tauranga Boys College 10, Te Puke 7, Cadets 7, BOP Indians 5, Whakatane United 2.
