A new Shell petrol station in Bethlehem will be the first built since Shell New Zealand was bought by its new owner, Greenstone Energy, on April 1.
Greenstone Energy owns and operates the retail and distribution assets formerly owned by Shell New Zealand.
Fast-growing Bethlehem is to get a new petrol station.
Tauranga City Council declined planning consent for the petrol station when Greenstone originally applied.
Spokesperson Jonathan Hill understands concerns expressed by a neighbor about the proposed petrol station were addressed, allowing the application to proceed.
Greenstone's general manager of retail, Mark Forsyth believes there was competition from other fuel retailers for the site.
The new petrol station will be built on State Highway Two in the Bethlehem township.
'The area is one of the fastest growing population centres in the country and this development will provide world-class fuels and retail convenience services to travellers in the area as well as to locals.
'We expect to begin construction in June and have the site complete and trading by October.”
The new service station will create around a dozen local jobs and will involve around 70 local workers during construction, says Mark.
