Titanic battle in Round Two

Early season bragging rights and confidence go on the line with the battle of the bridge taking centre stage in Round Two of Bayfair Baywide Premier Rugby.

Once more Mount Maunganui Sports and Tauranga Sports rekindle their premiership rivalry at Blake Park, with the two sides entering the match with first up wins – the Mount over Rangiruru and Tauranga against Rangataua.

Last season premiership winners Tauranga claimed the spoils in all three encounters including a tight 21-26 victory in the Bayfair Baywide Premier Club Rugby final.

'We're looking forward to another close battle and to measuring ourselves against Mount Sports,” says Tauranga Sports senior coach Mike Rogers.

But with his young charges Rogers believes they could enter the match as the underdogs.

With a good preseason under their belts, the Mounties are raring to go and looking forward for an early season crack at the defending champions.

'We had a great start to the season with the win versus Rangiuru, now Tauranga this weekend and the boys are amped,” says Mount Sports coach Rodney Voullaire.

Voullaire says the side will be concentrating on their team and individual jobs at hand opposed to the visitors to avoid any complacency.

'We're hoping for a classic from both teams. A fast, structured and close ding dong match.”

In conjunction with the battle of the bridge the Mount club is hosting a blood donors charity day, with a Red Night function.
