Te Puke setting the benchmark

Te Puke Sports are keen to push on with their top of the table form when they host Rotoiti in a top four clash this weekend.

Round 8 of Bayfair Baywide Premier Club sees the two sides do battle at Murray Salt Stadium, in what has vital points up for grabs in a tightly congested top half of the table – nine points separating the first six teams.

Te Puke currently leading the competition, one point clear of Mount Maunganui, are fresh off a 46-38 victory against Whakarewarewa but face a Rotoiti side buoyed by their 17-14 triumph over defending champions Tauranga Sports.

Te Puke head coach Craig Jefferies gives credit to the transformation of the Rotoiti side from what they were a couple of seasons ago.

'They have a lot of depth and having seen they bet Tauranga last week, we know this game is going to be big,” says Jefferies.

Rotoiti head coach, Kevin Lee is looking forward to seeing how his side, three points adrift of their rivals, stacks up against this year's benchmark.

He adds the challenge is even tougher playing at Te Puke's home ground.
