Club season gets critical

Round two of Bayfair Baywide Premier Club Rugby marks a number of important match ups thanks to a tightly congested points table – none more so than Whakarewarewa verses Rotoiti.

Sitting in fourth and fifth spot on the ladder with 27 points, Rotoiti with a superior points differential, the two clubs will be out to keep the pressure on front runners Te Puke and Mount Maunganui.

But Whakarewarewa, holding the wood having won 14-6 away from home in the opening round of the 2014 competition, remains confident they can turn around a disappointing loss the Mount last week.

Both sides have won five of the nine matches so far this season, with Whakarewarewa managing to stay in striking distance thanks to seven bonus points.

'Rotoiti have been on form the last couple of weeks and we haven't been so it's going to be a tough battle,” says Whakarewarewa coach Ngarimu Simpkins.

Rotoiti coach Kevin Lee says the side is looking forward to the game in what he hopes brings better fortune then the sides' previous encounter.

'Whaka bet us in the first round so hopefully we have improved enough to be competitive enough,” says Lee.

'With the game being held at Whaka's home ground, that gives them a little bit of home ground advantage."

The two teams will also be playing for the Tai Mitchell Sheid, up for grabs when Rotorua clubs play each other.
