Chatham Cup tie postponed

The third round ASB Chatham Cup tie between Waikato Bay of Plenty's Hamilton Wanderers and North Shore United AFC is being postponed due a recent player ineligibility decision.

New Zealand Football is postponing Sunday's match claiming this is the best course of action.

A Hamilton Wanderers player contests the ball with the opposition.

Hamilton Wanderers were set to play after an investigation into player eligibility found Mangere United had fielded an ineligible player in their round two penalty shootout victory over the Waikato Bay of Plenty side.

It was found the required International Transfer Certificate of one player involved in the match had been issued on Monday 19 May.

New Zealand Football ASB Chatham Cup regulations stipulate all players must have been registered to their clubs for a period of at least 15 days prior to taking the field in the competition.

The result of the match was overturned and Hamilton given the victory and a place in the third round.

Mangere United have the right to appeal the decision to New Zealand Football.

'With the process still open regarding a possible appeal by Mangere United, we feel that postponing the third round match is in the best interest of all parties involved,” New Zealand Football competitions manager Chris Kemp

'Once the process around the protest has officially closed we will proceed appropriately as soon as possible.”

Tauranga United will also take the field in the third round drawn against East Coast Bays AFC.
