Defending Western Bay of Plenty First XI titleholders Aquinas College, are making the early running in the pre-holiday competition with an unbeaten two game winning streak.

Last weekend the side laid down the gauntlet to the other contenders with a clear-cut victory over Bethlehem College, in a rematch of last season's title decider.

This Saturday they square off against the Tauranga Boys College Third XI at Ferguson Park.

The encounter will see the First XI competition leading batsmen and bowler meet in head to head combat.

Tauranga Boys David Rout blasted a quick fire 90 runs in the season opener, while Aquinas medium quick bowler Joseph Robinson is the competition's leading wicket taker.

Otumoetai College, who have been genuine contenders in the First XI competitions in recent seasons, have the opportunity to get off the bottom of the points ladder this weekend.

They face Mount Maunganui Gold who draw their players from the Mount and Papamoa Colleges, with a close contest on the cards.

Bethlehem College play Eastern Bay of Plenty's Trident High School in a game with Bay of Plenty Schools provincial pride on the line.

Tauranga Boys College Lords and Aquinas seconds, lead the Second XI competition after the opening round last weekend.

Katikati College and Tauranga Boys College Wanderers, wrote their own piece of secondary school cricket history, when their match finished in a rare as hens teeth tie last week.

Katikati batted first were removed for 72 runs before Wanderers also finished on 72 all out – which produced an incredible result, of two identical scores with both teams being dismissed.

On Saturday Aquinas two are at home to Bethlehem two, Te Puke High School play Katikati College with Tauranga Boys Wanderers and Lords meeting at Waipuna Park.
