Greerton’s season on the line

Eves Realty Greerton have an almost sudden death Baywide Cup game against Carrus Mount Maunganui at Blake Park on Saturday to make the title decider the following weekend.

While there is a theoretical chance that Greerton could make the Baywide Cup Final, if they are beaten by Mount Maunganui on the weekend – it would take one of the biggest upset in Baywide cricket for some time, with third placed Element IMF Cadets having to be defeated by bottom placed BOP Indians.

There is a strong rivalry between the two Western Bay sides, with Mount Maunganui sure to want to reverse the result of the last meeting, between the two premier teams.

Late last season Greerton eliminated Mount Maunganui from the Williams Cup title race, when they beat the Mount side in the minor semi-final.

Greerton batted first and posted 214/7, with Bay of Plenty representatives Tom MacRury and Brett Hampton both reaching the fifties.

In spite of a valiant knock of 74 not out from Mount skipper Peter Drysdale, the Greerton bowling pair of Brett Hampton and Tommy Clout grabbed four wickets apiece, to have Mount Maunganui all out for just 114.

While City Sports Bar Te Puke have already claimed a place in the playoffs for third and fourth, they will want to cement their place in the standings, against Tauranga Boys College at Nicholson Field.

Central and Whakatane United should have a good tussle in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, with Cadets heavily favoured to beat BOP Indians at Smallbone Park in Rotorua.

Baywide Cup December 6:

BOP Indians v Element IMF Cadets, Smallbone Park; Whakatane United v Central, Rex Morepeth Park; Tauranga Boys College v City Sports Bar Te Puke, Nicholson Field; Carrus Mount Maunganui v Eves Realty Greerton, Blake1.

Points Table:

Carrus Mount Maunganui 94, Eves Realty Greerton 86.5, Element IMF Cadets 72, City Sports Bar Te Puke 54, Tauranga Boys College 38.5, Central 38.5, Whakatane United 24.5, BOP Indians 23.
