Bay of Plenty and Northland lead the standings, entering the third day and final of the ND Senior Secondary Schoolgirls Cricket tournament being played in Tauranga.

Defending titleholders Bay of Plenty had a short and sharp game with Counties Manukau in their T20 round three game yesterday.

Led by Tanieka Uerata and Briaana Perry who each grabbed three wickets, the Bay side bowled Counties out for just 53.

Tauranga Intermediate student Nensi Patel showed some of her immense potential when she top scored with 39 not out, as the Bay cruised to a nine wicket win.

Olivia Lobb shot to the top of the batting stakes at the tournament, when she blasted an unbeaten 87 for Northland.

Playing Waikato Valley, the team from the far north posted 129/9 and then restricted Waikato Valley to 94/7. Maria Wright took two wickets for 9 runs for Northland.

Hamilton, who was the only side to win two games on day one, tasted defeat in round three being beaten by Poverty Bay. Hamilton were restricted to 68/6 by tight Poverty Bay bowling before Poverty Bay took out the game by a solitary wicket.

Bay of Plenty had another solid win in the afternoon round of T20 competition.

Hamilton suffered their second defeat of the day, when the Bay bowlers strangled the Waikato sides batting attack, who reached just 50/6. Bay bowlers Brianna Perry and Greer Hill grabbed two wickets apiece. The Bay side again waltzed to victory with seven wickets to spare.

Waikato Valley batswoman Sarah Parker, took the Counties Manukau bowling attack apart as she smashed the tournament's top score of 96 not out.

Her innings contained eleven 4's and two gigantic 6's as she blazed away with her bat. Waikato Valley who recording their first win of the tournament posted a massive 172/1, with Hannah Foster grabbing a half century. Counties were removed for 79 with five run outs causing most of the damage.

Northland joined Bay of Plenty on nine points, after quickly despatching Poverty Bay, who were bowled out for just 42 runs.

Northland bowler Caitlan Phillips did the damage with the ball taking a remarkable four wickets at a cost of just 2 runs. Jade Litchfield took her side to victory with an unbeaten 22 runs.
