Tense finish to title races

This seasons WBOPCA First Round Reserve and B Grade competitions, the entrée to the post-holiday season championship title races, will see four teams chasing Western Bay titles on Saturday.

Mount Maunganui and Katikati, who have dominated the Baywide and Western Bay Reserve grade titles over the last four or five seasons, will fight out the Reserve Grade Final at Blake Park number two ground.

Mount Maunganui have won multiple Western Bay titles, while Katikati are the defending Baywide (McNaughton Trophy) Reserve Grade Champions and have met Mount Maunganui in the McNaughton final over the last three years.

Three other Reserve games will be played to find the competitions final finishing positions. Cadets will finish in third place after Tauranga Boys College second XI were forced to default because of other commitments.

Greerton will travel to the Te Puke Domain to play the home team in the plate final, while R&A Sangha and Sikh Sports will meet at Ferguson Park.

Katikati will have the opportunity to win both Western Bay titles, however standing in their way is top qualifier Cadets, who have lost just a solitary match on the way to the B Grade title decider.

Grasshoppers and the Singh XI will contest the playoff for third place.

The B Grade Plate finals will be decided between Wanderers and Mount Maunganui with Greerton and Albion meeting at Pemberton Park.
