Big weekend of cricket

It is a big weekend for two teams of Bay of Plenty players, who must produce back-to-back efforts for both club and region.

On Sunday the Bay of Plenty Development side will travel to play their Waikato Valley counterparts at St Pauls College in Hamilton, while the Greerton premier team meet Kaipaki from Waikato Valley, in the ND Club Championship playoffs at Pemberton Park.

The ND Development game sees the return of former New Zealand Under 19 player Sean Davey, to the representative cricket ranks, from injury. The accomplished all-rounder will return to the Bay representative scene to bat in the top order against Waikato Valley.

Another who knows about the furnace of top flight cricket is wicket keeper Alex Oakley.

The talented gloveman was behind the stumps for the Bay First XI, when they relieved Hamilton of the Hawke Cup in 2015, with a Hawke Cup record score of 701 all out.

After losing their first Basil McBurney Trophy encounter against Hamilton, the Bay second XI will want to put competition points in the bank on Sunday.

Greerton earned the Bay of Plenty ND Club Championships berth, by way of winning the Baywide Cup in the first half of the season.

On Sunday, Waikato Valley representatives Kaipaki visit Pemberton Park, with the winner progressing to business end of the club champs.

While Greerton know little about their opposition, they will take a strong line-up into the encounter.

Bay of Plenty Senior Men's team master blasters of Tom MacRury, Cam Neal and Brett Hampton give the Greerton side an extremely strong top order. Skipper Shane Wineti and Kent Hodder are also more than useful batsmen.

The Greerton bowling attack is likely to be led by Bay of Plenty quick bowler, Campbell Thomas along with Bay all-rounder Brett Hampton.

Another talent with the ball in hand, is Dan Spencer who took a seven wicket bag for Greerton in the current seasons Baywide Cup.
