WBOP Cricket ramps up

The business end of the season has arrived for the teams in the WBOPCA Reserve and B Grade competitions, with the two Western Bay Championships being fought out over the next nine weeks.

Last year R&A Sangha defeated Katikati in the Reserve Grade title decider. The Sangha XI posted 171 all out against Katikati, then bowled them out for 112 to claim the Reserve Grade silverware.

The fortunes of the two Reserve finalists last years have changed markedly this season. While Katikati have gone on to win the 2014/15 WBOPCA Shield, the Sangha XI fell well off the pace in the first round competition.

On Saturday R&A Sangha and Katikati will play a repeat of the 2014 title decider, when the two sides meet at the Uretara Domain in Katikati.

Multiple Reserve Championship winners Mount Maunganui, will start their title chase against Tauranga Boys College at Blake Park. Sikh Sports and Greerton will square off at Waipuna Park with Te Puke and Cadets meeting at the neutral venue of Gordon Spratt Reserve in Papamoa.

Last year's B Grade Championship, was taken out by Wanderers who removed Grasshoppers for 93 and cruised home to a seven wicket win.

A replay of last season B Grade title fight will take centre stage at Mitchell Park, when Grasshoppers host Wanderers. Current season First Round champions Cadets will start their quest to win another title this season, when they meet Mount Maunganui at Ferguson Park.

Western Bay newcomers Singh XI will play Katikati at Centennial Park in Te Puke with Greerton squaring off with Albion at Waipuna Park.
