Aquinas to defend title

The big match-up in the WBOPCA First XI competition takes place this Saturday when defending titleholders Aquinas College square off with 2014/15 First Round winners Bethlehem College.

Aquinas College, clinched both of last season's competitions beating Bethlehem College in the two title deciders, with the latter grabbing revenge last December when they defeated their long time rivals in the Term Four Final.

Aquinas batted first in the Term Four final stanza and was removed for 111. In what turned out to be a battle of attrition, Bethlehem took out a hard fought victory with a four wicket win.

A pair of players, who sit in predominant position on the individual leader-boards, could play a big part in the final outcome of the match on Saturday.

Bethlehem batsman Daniel Price sits in second place in the batting stakes and has posted the competitions highest score of 102 not out. Aquinas bowler Jarod Schneebeli has taken five wickets in the title race and showcased his talent in last Sundays T10 shoot-out at the Bay Oval, taking three wickets for three runs.

Tauranga Boys' College White, who beat their TBC Blue school-mates last weekend, will be chasing back to back wins when they travel to play Trident High School in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Otumoetai College, won the only other game played last weekend defeating Katikati College and will host the Taupo Combined Schools side, with Mount Maunganui Gold at home to Katikati College.
