Chch Quake: Ngati Ranginui responds

Ngati Ranginui Iwi Society Incorporated is coordinating a drop-off centre for the collection and dispatch of donated items to various agencies that are assisting whanau affected by last week's earthquake in Christchurch.

Te Runanga o Ngati Ranginui Iwi Chairman Huikakahu Kawe says that in response to a call that the society received for iwi to step in and aid where they can, 'Ngati Ranginui are responding to that call”.

The society invites donations of non-perishable foods and items such as blankets, baby items such as nappies and formula, and any other unwanted items.

The drop-off centre is located at the society's offices in the Old Tauranga Post Office Building on Willow Street, between 8.30am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.

The iwi has also made a cash donation to the Ngai Tahu Charitable Trust fund to be used to further assist whanau in the affected region and is looking at other areas that Ngati Ranginui can provide relief support.

‘Our thoughts go out to all those who have been affected by the Christchurch earthquakes – Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui – Stand strong, stand tall and be of great heart.'
