Country fair for young and old

A relaxing day of country fun for the whole family is on offer at Te Puna School today – and it's all for a good cause.

Te Puna School's 2016 Country Fair will be jam-packed with fun activities for young and old, flavour-filled food and stalls for all.

Organiser and Te Puna PTA member Lissa Carston says everyone is invited to the fair, which will be a relaxing day of fun for everyone.

The day started at 9am with people turning up early for the jumble sale, and all of the usual drawcards will open from there.

Children can enjoy coconut shy, plate smash, rifle range shooting, face painting and much more.

'There will be pony rides, tractor rides and people from the Waikato bring their Newfoundland dogs for the day, offering small children rides on their backs too.”

A cake stall will be chocka with home-baked cakes, slices, muffins for sale plus homemade sweets such as fudge, coconut ice and toffee for those with a sweet tooth.

The Café will offer tea and coffee and lots of scones, plus there's a barbecue, hangi, ice-creams and drinks. 'We'll be selling a nice egg and bacon breakfast muffin, which is always popular,” says Lissa.

'People can pre-order a hangi for lunch or buy it on the day.”

Plants and produce will be for sale, with a selection of jams, chutneys, pickles and sauces, there's a secondhand book sale – and the well-known helicopter drop is at 1.30pm on the school field.

Here, the aircraft hovers above and drops 200 ping pong balls. Each child gets a prize but only two win a helicopter ride.

The Te Puna Idol talent quest will see entrants entertain, and a silent auction will be on.

Lissa says funds raised will go to the school's IT, library, and sports uniforms and equipment.

Te Puna School Country Fair is on until 2pm at 225 Te Puna Rd.
