Police have released the name of the person killed in a crash in the Bay of Plenty.

David Jonathan Kanuta died following a motorcycle crash on Bridge Street, Opotiki, on Friday.

He was 49-year-old.

"Enquiries into the crash are ongoing," says a police spokesperson.

The crash happened just before 7pm on November 20.

Police closed the road for several hours to allow the serious crash unit to investigate the scene.

It was re-opened around 11pm.
