Police have released details of the girl who drowned at a Rotorua lake on Monday.

She was 4-year-old Mystique Genuine Pairama of Upper Hutt.

Police were alerted to the incident at Lake Rotokawau around 4.30pm on Monday, says a police spokesperson.

A rahui has been placed on the lake until further notice.

Her death has been referred to the Coroner.
