Deadbeat is ready to raise the roof - and the dead - at Totara Street tonight in a gig that marks the start of a 13-date national headline tour across the country.
Described as the Rage single release tour, the show promises a 'full noise energy-driven melt your face off” vibe.
He is definitely going to need some strong fixer spray for his incredible stage make up.
Deadbeat is Shelton Woolright, founding member and drummer in multi-platinum Kiwi rock band Blindspott as well as the successful I Am Giant, which Shelton formed in London in 2014.
Since returning from London in 2018, Shelton has called Tauranga home, and has combined his musical talents, art direction and production skills as Deadbeat, gaining a huge following for his high energy sets with theatrical performances in stage make-up and dancers.
Shelton - or Deadbeat (people call him both and he doesn't mind either) - is looking forward to playing for the home crowd.
'It's always good to kick off the tour at home.”
He says the show will be 'high energy, full noise...the music is the driver and I thrive off the crowd. It's a good workout”.
He will not only be performing his latest single Rage but his first single, Come Alive.
Fans will also be treated to five new songs that are set to be released later in the year.
Like many musicians, the global pandemic pushed him back in terms of the timing of releases, but the upside was more time in the studio to work on an eagerly awaited Deadbeat album.
'I'm currently in the studio working hard on the album. We are getting close now and are looking at a release late this year early next year.”
There is a bit of work involved to get himself ready to transform into Deadbeat.
'We like to start getting in the zone an hour or so before the show.”
He channels his huge creative talent not just into music and art, but also photography, tattooing and is 'a massive fan” of boxing.
After the show he will be back in the studio, not just producing the Deadbeat album, but is back writing with Blindspott.
'There will be some new music coming with that too so stay tuned.”
