Rescue chopper carries out 28 missions in June

The TECT Rescue Helicopter crew carried out 28 missions in total across the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel regions for the month of June.

Of those missions, five of these were motor vehicle accidents, five were rescues, eight were inter-hospital transfers and 10 medical events were attended to.

On Wednesday, June 16, the TECT Rescue Helicopter attended to a male patient in his sixties who had sustained serious leg injuries in Kawerau, in the Bay of Plenty region. The patient was flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment, says a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter.

"The same evening, the on-board crew of the TECT Rescue Helicopter responded to a call out to Whitianga for a female patient in her seventies suffering a serious medical condition that required immediate attention and care. The patient was treated and transported to Waikato Hospital."

On Thursday, June 17, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was tasked to Opotiki for a male patient in his sixties suffering a cardiac event. The patient was flown urgently to Waikato Hospital for treatment.

On Friday, June 18, the TECT Rescue Helicopter crew were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a quad bike and a tractor. One patient was flown to Tauranga Hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday, June 19, the TECT Rescue Helicopter responded to a male patient in his sixties suffering a serious cardiac event in Omiao.

"The patient was transported to Whakatane Hospital. On return to Tauranga, the TECT Rescue Helicopter on-board crew were re-tasked to Pukehina, where a male patient in his sixties was experiencing chest pain. The patient was flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment."

The morning of Thursday, June 24, the helicopter was called for two missions to Waihi in one day.

"Firstly, the TECT Rescue Helicopter was called out to Waihi Beach for a female patient in her sixties suffering a medical event," says a spokesperson.

"The patient was flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.

"Later that same morning, the TECT Rescue Helicopter crew responded to a female patient in her seventies suffering a medical event in Waihi. The patient was transported to Tauranga Hospital for treatment."

The same day, the TECT Rescue Helicopter crew responded to a boating accident in Auckland. A male patient in his fifties had sustained a serious leg injury and was flown to Tauranga Hospital for treatment.

The TECT Rescue Helicopter was then dispatched to Whakatane for a female patient in her thirties experiencing maternity difficulties. She was flown to Auckland Hospital.

"On Wednesday, June 30, two helicopters were required at the scene of a single-vehicle motor accident near Ngatira. Two patient required urgent medical care and transportation. The TECT Rescue Helicopter flew a female patient in her twenties to Waikato Hospital.
