A man accused of the murder of a Tauranga man in 2018 will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

More than three years after the murder of David Kuka, police arrested a 38-year-old Raetihi man on Friday, December 17, 2021.

David was fatally shot at a Wilrose Place address on February 11, 2018.

In a statement from police, Detective Inspector Lew Warner says this was the second homicide at the same address within a month. Lance Waite died from injuries he sustained at the address prior to being dumped at Tauranga Hospital.

'Police will not rule out further arrests," Lew says when talking about the investigation into the death of David Kuka.

'Police would like to acknowledge the victim's extended family. As this matter is now before the courts, police will not be commenting further.”

During his court appearance on December 18, 2021, the murder accused was granted interim name suppression.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again on February 2, 2022.
