Emergency services are responding to reports of an assault that took place in Hamilton.

"Shortly before 3.30pm Police received a request to assist St John Ambulance at an assault at a property on Hukanui Road, Chartwell," says a police spokesperson.

"Police responded and assisted St John Ambulance, following which two people were transported to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries. One of the injured parties was arrested. Police enquiries in to the circumstances of the incident are ongoing."

"St John was notified of an incident in Hamilton at 15:22 and responded one ambulance and two managers to the scene. We assessed and treated one patient who was transported to Hamilton Hospital in a serious condition," says a St John spokesperson.
