Firefighters were called to the Bethlehem Country Club on Monday afternoon after a gas pipe was struck during construction work this afternoon.
Tauranga and Greerton Fire Brigades attended the scene on Carmichael Road around 3.30pm.
Firefighters worked to maintain a safe environment while a broken gas pipe was repaired.
Greerton station officer Nigel Liddicoat says workers were using a well driller to drill holes into the ground when they ruptured a pipe.
Vector was at the scene and in the process of clamping the broken pipe at both ends when the firefighters arrived, he says.
'The leak was then isolated and they were going to repair the pipe.”
Precautionary action was taken by the fire service to maintain a safe environment.
Nigel says the Country Club was not evacuated and the pipe is now in the process of being fixed.
