Tauranga Crossing Ltd is announcing the start of construction, with ground to be broken at the Tauranga Crossing Lifestyle Centre on October 12.

The Tauranga Crossing Lifestyle Centre is located at the junction of the State Highways 29 and 36 which serves both Tauranga and the broader Bay of Plenty region.

This Lifestyle Centre expansion will bring new shopping opportunities to the wider Bay of Plenty region, providing new 5760sqm and 850sqm large format retail stores and 185 car parks.

The building will be ready for stores to complete their fit-outs in August 2023, with an anticipated public opening date of late 2023.

The new retailers will be announced early 2023.

Tauranga is the fastest growing regional economy in New Zealand, and has a relatively low provision of curated retail Centre space.

As a result there is strong demand from local, national and international retailers for high quality enclosed retail space in Tauranga.

'We are excited to break ground at Tauranga Crossing Lifestyle Centre,” says Tauranga Crossing CEO Lauren Riley.

'This represents the next stage of our long-term plans for this regional hub and popular destination. The upcoming works will strengthen the retail offer at Tauranga Crossing by adding to our existing mix of retail.

'We have strong interest already and look forward to announcing further new retail choices for our community.”

Sounds good until you realise that the congestion in the area is also increasing. Also to wonder how this intensification of housing and growth does to infrastructure of water , power, etc . Guess we will find out

Fantastic ! ! !

Tauranga is growing everywhere but in the infrastructure to cope with said growth. Does anyone have a clue how all the extra people are going to get in & out of the crossing? Does anyone have a plan for the added congestion around Barkes Corner? Does anyone have a plan for the SH29/Cambridge Rd intersection? In fact does any one have a plan at all?

Your last sentence is brilliant. Cracked me up. It sums your comment up perfectly.

There is a huge need for covered in shopping as suggested here, why not close off Devonport Road to all vehicular traffic between Elizabeth Street and the Strand, cover it in and make it a pedestrian mall? Could have street stalls, market days, AWESOME Christmas display, the potential would be huge (oh and go all out un PC and ban rough sleepers and begging). Strikes a happy median between dead and malls such as Tauriko and Bayfair.

fantastic
