UPDATE 4.54pm: Road users travelling between Tauranga and Waihi today can no longer expect long delays, according to a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

Drivers are still urged to "drive to the conditions".

According to Google Maps, the previous congestion has been heavily reduced.

EARLIER 4pm: Road users are being advised to expect delays between Tauranga and Waihi on SH2, from both directions.

"Due to holiday congestion, road users should expect traffic delays through this area," says a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"Allow extra time for your journey or consider travelling at a later time."

According to Google Maps, traffic is currently moving slowly along SH2 between Bethlehem and Minden.

"Please drive to the conditions," says the Waka Kotahi spokesperson.
