UPDATE 8.45PM: Three people have been taken into custody following a police chase in Tauranga.
A SunLive reader has messaged us on Facebook to say they witnessed a "high speed police chase happening along Ohauiti Road".
They say there were four police cars chasing a white ute/van "back and fourth along Ohauiti Road towards Welcome Bay Road".
About 7.40pm, Police signalled for a vehicle to stop on Tapuae O Tu Way, in Welcome Bay, Tauranga, says a police spokesperson.
"The vehicle failed to stop, and has headed towards rural Kaitemako. The occupants have abandoned the vehicle and Police have taken three people into custody soon after.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
