Greerton has decided it's time to move on from promoting the village as the 'op shop capital of New Zealand' and go for a more authentic approach to bring people to the village and the region.
Mainstreet Greerton spokesperson Mahia Martelli says it's an exciting opportunity for Greerton.
Greerton Mainstreet along with Tourism Bay of Plenty and Stuff have been working on a marketing campaign to showcase the unique points of the four Mainstreets – Greerton, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Downtown Tauranga – with the intention of bringing more tourists into Tauranga.
The four Mainstreets are actively working together on the interactive marketing drive.
'As well as showcasing the retailers and businesses in our village, we also want to display our beautiful Yatton Park, golf course and racecourse and include the historical meanings behind each of the areas.”
This week has been filled with drone filming, schedules and talent arrangement in the village and surrounding areas.
Mahia says the interactive campaign has been well received by village businesses. They were consulted to see if they wanted to be involved, and those who put their hands up will be specifically featured.
'Greerton Village will have its own external webpage linked to the Stuff website that will be viewed by thousands, I am so happy to be putting in the extra time and energy towards this exciting initiative and help bring people here.”
The interactive campaign will be going live in April.

Other than when the cherry trees are in bloom, Greerton gives an extremely depressing impression. The angle parking, overhanging dark trees and restrictive road width makes everything seem claustrophobic, dark and oppressive. It needs to be opened up and more light allowed in.
safe and character

to be fair its one of the few character shopping areas apart from the Mount and vintage or recycled or pre-loved shopping is the draw-card in many inner city trendy shopping areas, Maybe just tidy the streets, make it safe and well-lit and build a homeless shelter

Just tidy the place up. Give it a darn good clean and paint. Do it up 'village style' . . . Dunno about the homeless shelter though. I've always thought the old Gilmours building would be perfect for that. Close to Greerton, close to Gate Pa, close enough to CBD, close to hospital, close to Greerton Police and plenty big enough . . . I'm suprised that Te Tuinga Whanau haven't jumped at it.
