A serious incident involving a train is being reported in Mount Maunganui.
A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says there has been a serious incident at the intersection of Maunganui/Golf Road.
A train is currently stationary preventing vehicles from entering or exiting Hewletts Road onto or from Maunganui Road.
"The road is expected to be blocked for some time and motorists should avoid the area."
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there are lots of police in the area, as well as firefighters.
A police spokesperson says emergency services are responding to an incident at the railway on Hewletts Road reported around 2:55pm.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes."
A Waka Kotahi spokesperson says the left turning lane on the Maunganui Rd off-ramp is closed with no access to Hewletts Road.
"Expect long delays in the area and drive with caution."
