Road reconstruction projects on Totara Street may affect motorist's travel at different times over the coming weeks.
The northbound lane on Totara Street - heading to Mount Maunganui - between Astrolabe Street and Hull Rd will be closed from 7pm Friday, August 4 until 6am Wednesday, August 9, while the northbound lane is constructed.
The southbound lane will remain open during this time.
Work to upgrade the southbound lane in this section will begin at 7pm Friday, August 11 through to Wednesday, August 16.
The northbound lane will be open during this time.
Work will take place at night between the hours of 6pm and 6am, and traffic management and detours will be in place.
"If you can, it might pay to avoid the area during these periods as delays are expected," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.
"Thank you for your patience as we carry out this essential work."

After heading over to the Mount today the return trip back to Tauranga took almost an hour and it was a far from pleasant experience.
Tauranga city council spokesman suggests we avoid the area this week. Pretty hard ask when that's where you work. Tired of Tauranga council roading "gurus" doing their utmost to paralyse as much of the city as possible for as long as possible. I'm surprised there is not more push back at some of the stupid but far reaching decisions they make . Cycle ways? Virtually no one uses them. Totara Street has more cyclists still riding on the road than use the however many million dollar, cycle way
Paralysed City

Great description Tunks "paralyse". Cyclists should be made to use bike lanes if they're there to get them off the road for everyone's sake. We too got stuck in this traffic yesterday as had no choice of where our destination was situated. There should be more push back but obviously folk just don't have the energy, time or drive anymore.
