Mount main sewage pipes to be replaced

A main aging sewage pipeline under Rata Street at Mount Maunganui is being replaced this week.

Tauranga City Council is replacing an aging main sewage pipeline this week at Mount Maunganui.

The pipelines is under Rata Street, from Nikau Crescent/Rata intersection and Totara Street/Rata Street intersection.   "The next phase of the project will start from Monday, September 11, and will take five to seven days," says a council spokesperson.

Work will be carried out between the hours of 7am and 6pm.   From Monday, access to Nikau Crescent from the Rata Street/Nikau Crescent intersection will be closed.

A detour via Walls Lane will be available for residents and vehicles needing to access Nikau Crescent.   Both lanes of Rata Street will remain open to traffic, however parking on the northern side of Rata Street remains closed. Access in and out of the Port will be retained as normal.   Pumps will be discharging water to a contained area near the entrance of Coronation Park, where fencing and signage will be in place.   "Residents are advised to expect delays and to take extra care when travelling through the Rata Street area."

The full project is expected to be complete by the end of October.   "We will continue to provide updates throughout the project and would like to thank the community for their patience as we carry out this important work."
