Tauranga mattress fire sparks emergency callout

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police are looking into the cause of a mattress fire in Tauranga.

Firefighters were called to the fire on Cameron Road in Gate Pa at 4.27am.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern fire communications shift manager Carren Larking says the call came in as "one vehicle bed mattress fire".

"It was out on arrival.

"Police were called ot rhe scene."

A police spokesperson confirmed that officers attended the fire earlier this morning.

"FENZ requested police assistance at a fire on Cameron Road.

"A mattress at the property was reported to be on fire.

"There is no mention of any injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing as to the circumstances of the fire."

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously via the Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 line.

Non-emergency information can be phoned into police on their 105 number.
