Fire and emergency services say they sent one fire truck to the small scrub fire.

The fire has since been extinguished.

Fire and emergency services have now left the area.

Reports are coming in of a scrub fire in Mount Maunganui.

A SunLive reader has messaged in saying there is a scrub from near the sand dunes on Marine Parade, between Banks and Grove aves.

"There is lots of smoke coming from the fire.

"People should avoid the area."
