UPDATE 9.30AM: A scooter rider is being attended to by paramedics after being knocked from a bike on Oceanbeach Road today.

Emergency services were called to the collision between a scooter and car near Tweed Street about 8.50am.

A scooter suffered major damage in a collision on Oceanbeach Road.

Police direct traffic around the scene of the collision.

A reporter at the scene says the collision is in the left lane heading towards Mount Maunganui, outside Moa Park.

A red scooter has suffered damage and is on the side of the road blocking the lane.

Police are currently directing traffic around the scene.

Witnesses are being spoken to at the scene.

Injuries to the scooter rider are unknown at this stage.
